Hervé Maury

What can you do after studying economics and a start in industry? Paint, of course!
Hervé Maury was settling down and looking for animal paintings without really finding anything. He tried his hand at creating them himself and discovered a talent that had been ignored. His first exhibitions brought him to the attention of the public, but also interested textile publishers and ceramists, who offered to collaborate with him: his career was launched.
He has been creating these anthropomorphic animals for nearly thirty years. Scraping to bring out the colours of the lower layers, using earth and sand, the simplicity is only apparent and the cheerfulness of the subjects is underpinned by a rigorous, well-controlled technique.
Although he rarely leaves his native South, Hervé Maury's fabulous bestiary is known the world over.
